Every once in a while, our team gets the opportunity to work on a project that truly stands out, both in scope and in craftsmanship. This particular home was one of those projects, and it challenged our crew while allowing us to highlight the quality and attention to detail that RainTech is known for.
This roof was substantial, measuring over 85 squares and more once you factor in the client’s newly built addition on the side of the home. The job required careful planning and precise execution, but our team was up for the challenge. We began removing the existing shingles on a Thursday, and through steady effort and teamwork, the entire project was completed by Monday.
One of the most unique aspects of this project was the roof pitch, which measured 14:12. This steep incline required every crew member to wear a harness and remain securely tied off at all times. Safety is always a priority for us, and on a roof of this nature, those measures were essential.
Beyond safety, another hallmark of our process is durability. For this project, we had the honor of replacing all of the home’s flashings with copper. Copper is not only visually striking but is also one of the most long lasting options available, offering resistance to rust and providing peace of mind for years to come. To further enhance the longevity of the roof, we installed additional layers of ice and water shield in key areas that are more prone to wear over time.
Our sheet metal team also crafted custom copper dormer covers and finials. These elements were not just functional but also added a beautiful decorative touch that complemented the home’s architectural style. Copper has long been used in roofing for both its resilience and its timeless appearance, and in this project, it truly brought out the character of the home.
The homeowners selected a Timberline ArmorShield II roof in the color Barkwood. This shingle option was an excellent choice for the property, as it paired beautifully with the home’s many unique architectural details. The house itself features multiple turrets, a nod to Victorian era structures that originated in medieval times as defensive towers but later became ornamental design elements. The roof also includes several dormers, which are windowed projections from the pitched roofline. Dormers provide additional space, natural light, and ventilation to the upper floors, and for this project, they were finished with decorative copper accents that tie into the overall design.
To complement the Barkwood shingles, we installed metal valleys, which not only strengthen the roof but also create a cohesive look with the copper details. The combination of oxidized copper finials from the original roof and the newly installed copper elements created a harmonious blend of old and new. The result is a color palette that feels both classic and refreshed, highlighting the unique character of this large home.
Functionality was also a priority for the homeowners, which is why they chose to incorporate solar powered vents. These vents provide active ventilation, allowing heat to escape more efficiently and contributing to a cooler and more comfortable home environment. Even though fall has arrived, the lingering heat makes this feature a particularly valuable addition.
In addition to the roofing work, our team also completed repairs on certain sections of the home’s stucco exterior. By addressing these areas, we ensured that the home was not only beautiful from the rooftop down but also structurally sound and ready to withstand the changing seasons.
This project was a rewarding experience for our team. It showcased the importance of combining craftsmanship, quality materials, and thoughtful design to create a roof that is not only durable but also enhances the beauty of the home. At RainTech, we are always proud to deliver results that bring long term value and peace of mind to our clients, and this home was a perfect example of that commitment.
